5 day Fell Ski Expedition
The Hetta-Pallas route is one of the most spectacular routes in Lapland. It offers stunning, varied landscapes, from the open fells with spectacular views to the magical old growth pine forests. Experience the fresh spring air, long sunny days and the serene silence of the snow covered fells on this memorable five day ski expedition.
On this self sustained fell ski trip, we bring along our equipment and food in pulka's. We ski between 12km-18km per day and sleep in tents in the terrain. We carry the necessary equipment for the trip with us on sledges.

Program
Day 2
The actual ski expedition begins. We transfer to the starting point in Hetta, where we cross the lake Ounasjärvi and make our way through the forests to the foot of Ounastunturi. We take a lunch break near the Pyhäkero hut. After the break, we climb steadily to the treeless alpine area of Ounastunturi, from which magnificent fell landscapes open up in every direction. After admiring the landscapes, we descend to Sioskuru, where we set up camp and spend the first night in tents.
Day 0-1
Pick up from Kittilä airport or Kolari train station and transfer to Riekontupa. If arriving early, we will prepare equipment for the expedition and practice using it the same day, otherwise we will start start the next morning. We fix the sleds, set up and pack the tents and train using the gas stoves. We will do a test ski trip with the equipment to make sure everything works as it should. The evening includes a meal together and, if desired, a sauna.
Day 7
After breakfast we pack up our gear and transfer back to Kolari, Levi or the airport.
Day 6
The last day of the expedition. From Mustavaara we descend to the beautiful Keimiöjärvi lake at the foot of Keimiötunturi, from where we continue on lesser-known routes through forests, lakes and fells back to the Riekontupa cabin. We prepare dinner together, dry out and maintain our gear and enjoy the sauna. Overnight stay at Riekontupa.
Day 3
We continue south along the open fell. On this section we can enjoy the expansive scenery, the occasional ptarmigan will greet us with their comical laugh, as the magnificent Pallastunturi fells open up before us. We proceed towards, Pahakuru, where we spend the second night.
Day 5
This is the most demanding day of the trip, as we steadily climb to the highest peak of the trip (806m), Taivaskero. The climb is about 400m. The prominance of Taivaskero provides views of the relitively flat lands to the south dotted with lakes and bogs. To the North we can see the stunning Ounasfell from where we skied a few days ago. We descend to the Pallas Hotel, where we can have lunch, or prepare our own meal at the Pallas hut. After our lunch break, we descend into the forest and continue to Mustavaara, where we spend the last night of the trip in tents.
Day 4
We descend from Ounastunturi back into the fell birch forest and continue in woods until we arrive at the Suaskuru hut were we stop for lunch. We continue skiing in the forest until we climb back to the foot of the open fells and set up camp next to the Rihmakuru hut.
